What this calculator does
This calculator multiplies availability, performance and quality to estimate OEE. Use a clearly defined planned production time, actual run time, ideal rate, total count and good count. The result is useful for separating lost time, lost speed and rejects, not for comparing unlike processes without context.
Choose consistent time boundaries
Remove planned time only according to the site definition. Do not change the definition between lines or shifts to improve the result.
- Use minutes for one defined production period
- Record unplanned downtime separately
- State whether breaks and planned maintenance are included
Check the ideal rate
The ideal rate should represent the approved fastest sustainable cycle for the product and format, not an unrealistic catalogue maximum.
- Use the correct product and pack recipe
- Check whether rate is per machine, lane or finished pack
- Review the rate after controlled process change
Use the three losses to direct action
Low availability points to stops, low performance to speed loss and micro-stops, and low quality to rejects or rework.
- Investigate the largest factor first
- Link state data to the first cause
- Track actions, not only the percentage
