Production data relating to mtbf, mttr and availability calculator

What this calculator does

Use consistent failure and restoration definitions. The result helps separate repeated failure frequency from slow recovery.

How the calculation works

MTBF = operating hours ÷ failures. MTTR = restoration hours ÷ repairs. Availability estimate = MTBF ÷ (MTBF + MTTR).

Use consistent boundaries: compare scenarios with the same product, pack, time period, cost basis and definition of a good unit.

Use the result to review

  • MTBF
  • MTTR
  • Availability estimate
  • Failure frequency

Validate the entered assumptions against production records before using the result in an investment, compliance or capacity decision.

Questions customers also ask

What counts as a failure?
Define it before collecting data and use the definition consistently.
Should planned maintenance be included?
Normally track it separately unless your chosen definition explicitly includes it.
Can availability exceed measured production availability?
Yes. This simple estimate does not include all planned loss, speed loss or quality loss.
What if there are no failures?
The observed period is failure-free, but a finite MTBF cannot be established from zero events.
